Can creatures with defender fight?
The ability is straightforward, creatures with Defender cannot attack. Prior to the existence of the keyword the concept existed and was represented by creature cards with the creature subtype of walls.
Can defenders be tapped?
Blocking creatures do not get tapped.
Can a defender deal damage?
A defender never deals damage simply because their defense value is higher than the attacker’s attack value. A defender might do damage to an attacker by a specific card effect, but in resolving the basic combat math, only the attacker is swinging.
Do walls automatically have defender?
A Wall that becomes a non-Wall will still have the defender ability. Likewise, a non-Wall that becomes a Wall won’t have the defender ability.

What happens if you don’t put your creatures into combat?
The value of your creatures plummets if you’re unwilling to put them into combat. A classic example comes up when your opponent attacks a morph creature into your Archers’ Parapet. The morph could turn face up to be a 5-power creature, or the opponent could have a spell like Awaken the Bear in his or her hand.
Can a morph be used on a face down creature?
The converted mana cost of a face-down creature is 0 since it has no mana cost. Morph is only an option if you’re casting the spell. If you’re putting it on the battlefield, you cannot put it onto the battlefield face-down.
