Can you cast a sorcery with madness at instant speed?
Yes, it does. It replaces the act of discarding the card to removing it from the game and allowing you to cast it for the madness cost. If it didn’t let you cast it at “instant speed” you would never be able to cast it because it tells you to cast the card in the middle of the Madness trigger.
Are activated abilities at instant speed?
Activated abilities that read “Activate this ability only any time you could cast an instant” mean the player must follow the timing rules for casting an instant spell, though the ability isn’t actually an instant. The player doesn’t actually need to have an instant card that he or she could cast.
Can Sunforger cast Sorceries at instant speed?
If it does not say ‘use at Sorcery speed’ then it can be used at Instant speed. This is true as long as people understand the original wording of things. For instance, someone who has a newer equipment card won’t know that you equip only as a sorcery since only old ones spell that out.
Can I play a sorcery in response to an instant on my turn?
You cannot cast anything in “response” to another spell unless the spell you are casting is an instant.
Can madness be countered?
Madness works no matter when or why you’re discarding the card. After that, playing a card with madness is just like playing an instant from your hand, except you pay the spell’s madness cost instead of its mana cost. It goes on the stack like any other spell and it can be countered like any other spell.
Can you activate Sunforger at instant speed?
Yes, as long as it’s equipped to a creature. It’s an instant speed effect.
Can you counter Sunforger?
You can’t counter Sunforger’s fetch ability with Convolute (though, you can slyly try to fit Squelch into a block limited match and get dq’d for running a stupid card that you obviously couldn’t have drafted).
What does ” any time they could cast a sorcery ” mean?
If a spell, ability, or effect states that a player can do something only “any time they could cast a sorcery” or “only as a sorcery,” it means only that the player must have priority, it must be during the main phase of their turn, and the stack must be empty. The player doesn’t need to have a sorcery card they could cast.
When does a sorcery take precedence over an instant?
If I cast a sorcery spell to force the opponent to discard two cards, and he/she then casts one of those cards as an instant, would the instant apply first or would the sorcery take precedence? In simplest terms possible: Your opponent can cast any instants in response to your sorcery, but he’ll still have to discard 2 cards if he has any.

Do you have to have a sorcery card to cast a spell?
The player doesn’t need to have a sorcery card they could cast. Effects that would preclude that player from casting a sorcery spell don’t affect the player’s capability to perform that action (unless the action is actually casting a sorcery spell).
