Can you play face down attack position?
The only way you will EVER have a face down attack monster is with the card Darkness Approaches. Other than through that card’s effect, there is no way to have a face down attack position- if you set a monster, it must be in defense position.
Can you set a monster in face down attack mode?
Yes. When you normal summon or set you can only do it in face up attack position, or face down defense position, respectively. There is no thing as “face down attack position”.
