What is a PAL version of a game?
PAL, or Phase Alternating Line, is a standard used for analog televisions that broadcasts at 50 Hz. Running a PAL-based game on NTSC hardware typically results in the game running at a different speed than intended or otherwise glitching out (see the video below for an example).
Are PAL Wii games 50Hz?

Almost every PAL Wii game has at least PAL 60Hz (480i), so collecting PAL games for Wii is a far, far less horrible deal than collecting for older PAL systems. Beware though, a few games still are only 50Hz.
Why does PAL run at 50Hz?
With PAL running at 50Hz and NTSC running at 60Hz it was cheaper to lower the clockrate of the computer running the game to make it easily compatible with the different speed.
