How can I Fix my StarCraft lag problem?

Make a new thing there called Starcraft (or whatever), type in your lan IP (your static IP) Select UDP, and type in 6112 in the 2 bottom left slots. Click ok and exit. If it has NOT appeared, right click on your lan and disconnect. then rightclick again and select connect. Sometimes after fixing my lag i have the problem reappear again.

How does P2P work in StarCraft Brood War?

Starcraft: Brood War and Remastered by extension are P2P (Peer to Peer) games. There is not a server you and your opponent connect to, instead you connect directly with your opponent and game uses a lock-step to constantly sync your game simulation. One player is designated as a host while the other connects to them.

How can I tell which port StarCraft is using?

Sometimes StarCraft will use a different port (if you haven’t changed the game port, it will be increased by 1 if old port was busy, such as when running PvPGN), so Blizzard recommends to forward the range of 6112 to 6119 UDP. To check which port StarCraft currently uses: Connect to any Battle.Net or unofficial server. You don’t need to log in.

Why did Blizzard add proxy servers to StarCraft?

Blizzard did add proxy servers for those without their ports opened so that the game will supposedly run smoothly. They claim the proxys do not add any latency and can actually improve latency in some situations. Anyone with networking knowledge can see that the statement of no additional latency is false.

What happens if you have a closed port in StarCraft?

If you have your StarCraft port closed you can only make outgoing connections. If 2 or more players in a game have their port closed, they can’t communicate with each other, because neither of them can accept incoming connections, causing the aforementioned lag. Therefore, there can only be one player with closed port in a game.
