How do triggered abilities stack?
Once an ability has triggered, its controller puts it on the stack as an object that’s not a card the next time a player would receive priority. It remains on the stack until it’s countered, it resolves, a rule causes it to be removed from the stack, or an effect moves it elsewhere.
What are state based effects?
State-based actions are game actions that happen automatically whenever certain conditions (listed below) are met. State-based actions don’t use the stack. 704.1a Abilities that watch for a specified game state are triggered abilities, not state-based actions. (See rule 603, “Handling Triggered Abilities.”)
How often are state-based actions checked?
These conditions are checked every time a player receives priority, before any triggered abilities would be put on the stack (704.3). Just a nitpick, but SBAs are checked any time a player WOULD receive priority.
Can state-based actions be responded to?
Accepted answer #1. You cannot, as State-based actions do not use the stack, and thus can’t be responded to. (Rule 704.1). Also, you do not sacrifice a creature due to the Legend Rule–you choose one of that Legend and the rest go to the graveyard.
How are triggered abilities handled in priority MTG?
Each time a player would get priority, the game first performs all applicable state-based actions as a single event (see rule 704, “State-Based Actions”), then repeats this process until no state-based actions are performed. Then triggered abilities are put on the stack (see rule 603, “Handling Triggered Abilities”).
When do triggered abilities get put on the stack?
Then triggered abilities are put on the stack (see rule 603, “Handling Triggered Abilities”). These steps repeat in order until no further state-based actions are performed and no abilities trigger. Then the player who would have received priority does so. 117.6.
What happens when a triggered ability is activated?
The ability doesn’t do anything at this point. 603.2a Because they aren’t cast or activated, triggered abilities can trigger even when it isn’t legal to cast spells and activate abilities. Effects that preclude abilities from being activated don’t affect them.
Do you know about the stack and priority system?
Practically every action in the game involves them, either directly or indirectly. However, there are a number of players, both new and old, that do not understand the subtleties of these two things. In this article, I will try to explain the stack and the priority system, starting with very simple rules and then moving on to more complex rules.
