Is District 9 a Halo movie?
SAN DIEGO — Peter Jackson and Neill Blomkamp were in New Zealand three years ago doing preproduction on what they thought was going to be the big-budget movie adaptation of Halo. District 9 expands on the short film’s premise: that aliens from outer space are treated just as poorly as illegal immigrants.

Did District 9 really happen?
The location that portrays District 9 is itself a real impoverished neighbourhood from which people were being forcibly relocated to government-subsidised housing. Several scenes were shot at the Ponte building. Filming for District 9 took place during the winter in Johannesburg.
Does District 9 have a happy ending?
Usually when a film concludes, audiences are treated to multiple powerful, soft-light shots of the hero kissing his love interest or hugging his relatives. If we’re lucky, they’ll even fist-pump the air in freeze frame. But District 9 has no such clear-cut heroic ending.
