When can you move the robber in cities and knights?

The robber cannot be moved until after the barbarians reach the island of Catan for the first time. Until the first invasion, when a “7” is rolled, each player much check if he is holding too many cards as normal; but the robber remains in the desert and you do not steal a card from another player.

Do I have to move the robber?

When a 7 is rolled, all players discard if they are over 7 cards. Then the Robber is moved. The Robber must be moved when a 7 is rolled and can be placed back on the desert. Once the player has placed the robber, they can not change their mind (because they see a better placement, or want to steal from someone else).

Can you move the robber before you roll?

Yes, that is legal. You may play the knight at any time during your turn, including before rolling. Yes you can. There is no restriction on playing a Knight card if you have already moved the Robber via a roll of ‘7’.

What is the Friendly Robber rule in Catan?

The Friendly Robber is a small rule variation that may be combined in any Catan scenario – it stipulates that the robber (and the pirate) may not be moved to a hex bordering settlements belonging to a player with two victory points (or fewer—possible with the Poor Settler tile in The Rivers of Catan).

Can a road be built on a road occupied by barbarians?

Barbarians occupy paths, and a road may not be built on paths occupied by barbarians. However, they may be driven off by wagons, and (as there is no robber in this scenario) may be moved on a roll of 7 to another path (if there is a road, the player may steal a resource from the road’s owner).
