Why do so many question words start with W?

As regards question words beginning with “w”, this is a feature of all Germanic languages (the group to which English belongs). The negative “n” is common not only to Germanic languages but also to the other main European language groups, i.e. Romance languages (non, nessun, nihil …) and slavonic languages (nyet).
