Are Wikki Stix the same as pipe cleaners?
The core of the Wikki Stix is acrylic synthetic yarn (unlike pipe cleaners there is no metal core in a Wikki Stix making it much safer). The wax coating is food grade and made of a similar substance to that found in lipstick and bubble gum. Wikki Stixx are completely non toxic (see below).
What age are Wikki Stix for?
Wikki Stix conform to all US Consumer Safety Standards including ASTM D-4236, CA-Prop 65 and F-963, as well as the European Standard BS5665/EN71. They appeal equally to boys and girls and span a wide range of ages (from 3 to 103!) They are perfect for quiet, independent play or interaction with others.
When was bendaroos made?
In 1989, a bit of serendipity introduced a funny little waxed yarn item, then called Sticky Wikki, to Kem Clark, a marketing consultant in Phoenix.
How do you store Wikki Stix?
Storing it in the tub help keeps it pliable. I also place a package of baby wipes beside the tub and remind my students to wipe their hands before they build words. You can also use one notebook for storing the Wikki Stix and give the students black clipboards as a place mat to manipulate and build words.
Do Wikki Stix dry out?
The wax is similar to that used in lip sticks and on food products. And of course, there are no sharp parts or wires. And, even if left out, Wikki Stix do not melt, dry out, stiffen, stain, freeze, pull apart or break.
