How do you get Shadow Magic in Wizard101?
Shadow Magic is learned from Sofia DarkSide, a wise mouse mage located in the Eclipse Tower in Moon Cliffs. You will only be able to access her after you have completed the quest “Touching Shadow” and after you defeat her, she will teach you Shadow Magic.
Is Shadow Magic a side quest?
You will obtain Shadow Magic when you defeat the “Brood Mother” and lead on to her quest of fixing the moon crown, it is not a side quest.

Most wizards are level 90 or higher when that happens, but it’s quest dependent. (You have to do the right quest, no matter what level you’re at when you get there.) Generally speaking, if you start Khrysalis at level 90, you’d do the shadow spells quest around level 95 or so.

How does Shrike work in Wizard101?
Shadow spells increase certain stats for a number of rounds. Shrike gives 50% pierce, -25% incoming healing and +10% damage. They all have backlash (mostly +40) and you can reduce it by doing what the creature likes, for example shrike likes blades, traps, and attack spells.

Re: Shadow Magic (Shadow Sentinel) When Shadow Sentinel is up you will intercept 25% of damage from attacks on your friends. This lowers their damage taken and gives it to you instead.

Shrike: every time you attack or blade (I think), it will write: -10 backlash. When you’ll heal or shield, it’ll write: +10 backlash. The healing one: every time you heal, it will write -10 backlash, and every time you hit, it will write +10 backlash.

At the start of each turn, players (with access to Shadow Pips) will fill their shadow meter. The higher your Shadow Pip Rating, the faster the meter will fill.
How does shadow Sentinel work?
Shadow Sentinel is the “defensive” Shadow-Self spell. It will give the caster the ability to intercept attacks, 80 more critical block, and 10% less incoming damage. Lastly, Shadow Seraph is the “healing” Shadow-Self spell. It increases your outgoing healing by 25%, but also increases your incoming damage by 25%.
