How does movement work in Warhammer?
When a unit moves it can either make a Normal Move, Advance or Remain Stationary. Units that are within Engagement Range of any enemy models can only either Fall Back or Remain Stationary. Select another unit in your army to move. Once all your units have moved, progress to the Reinforcements step (pg 11).
Can you move through your own models 40k?
As others have said, you can’t move through any models, friend or foe, unless your rules (like Fly) say you can.

In 8th you just measure the actual distance you move. It likely will be worth discussing with your opponent before the game how you want to treat different pieces of terrain. Things like if you’re going to have to use ladders/stairs or if you both want to just assume any unit can move the 2-4″ vertically.
