Is rikku related to Yuna?
Rikku and Brother are Yuna’s maternal first cousins. She is close to and protective of Yuna, whom she often refers to as “Yunie.” In Final Fantasy X, Rikku is the first friend Tidus makes in Spira, and she becomes Yuna’s final guardian on her pilgrimage to defeat Sin.

Why does rikku join the party?
Rikku wanted to join the party because it was the only way to protect Yuna from the Final Summoning, since she failed to steal Yuna. Tidus knew that Rikku was a nice person as she was the first person he met when first arriving in Spira, so he wanted her to come with them. That is why Rikku is allowed to join them.

Tidus stayed as a guardian because Yuna wanted him to. She had a “feeling” about him, and mentioned it as the group first enters Kilika Woods. “If you’re going to wash your dirty laundry in public, don’t be surprised when people comment on your skidmarks!”
Why does rikku start so weak?
Rikku starts with all three. It more than makes up for her poor stats at the start. If you want to level her up some, have her in your starting party, steal something, then switch her out. Once you have a nice collection of items, she can easily dominate entire enemy parties by herself, even with low stats.
Is rikku useful FFX?
You don’t have to use her, but you don’t have to use anyone. The only times she’s truly needed is if you’re going for NSG, low level challenges against difficult enemies/arena bosses/dark aeons. Yes, she doesn’t deal as much damage as Wakka or Tidus with her OD.
