Can cards that target players target Planeswalkers?
The Planeswalker redirection rule was implemented in Lorwyn with the introduction of the first Planeswalker cards. The rule states that you cannot directly target a Planeswalker with damage dealing spells—instead, you must target a player and then redirect the damage from that player to a Planeswalker they control.
Can Planeswalkers be targeted by Target creature spells?
We issued errata to over 700 cards to be able to also deal damage to planeswalkers. The simplest guidelines to remember are: Abilities that read “target creature or player” have been changed to “any target.” These spells and abilities can target a planeswalker you control.
Can shrapnel blast target Planeswalkers?
As we previously reported, the majority of cards, like Lightning Bolt or Shrapnel Blast, will will simply change their wording from “target creature or player” to “any target,” which will include any creature, player, or Planeswalker.
Can Corrupt target a planeswalker?
Corrupt can target the opposing player, deal damage, then that damage may be redirected to a planeswalker controlled by that opponent. As a minor side note, you cannot redirect damage dealt to you by sources you control to a planeswalker.
Can burst lightning hit planeswalkers?
Lightning Bolt – yes, it can target a planeswalker – it now says “any target”. Again, note that older printings don’t mention planeswalkers, but the current oracle text is updated. Syphon Soul – no, it doesn’t deal damage to planeswalkers, just players.
Can lightning strike hit a planeswalker?
You CAN target planeswalkers with lightning bolt. The Oracle text for lightning bolt, which can be found on Gatherer, states “any target”, which includes creatures, players and planeswalkers. Dealing damage to planeswalkers used to be handled by the “Planeswalker Redirection rule”, but this has since been removed.
