Is morph a casting cost?

Morph is only an option if you’re casting the spell. If you’re putting it on the battlefield, you cannot put it onto the battlefield face-down. Morph is an alternate cost, so you cannot combine it with other alternate costs. For instance, you could not cast a face-down creature for free if you control an Omniscience.

Are morph costs activated abilities?

Just pay the morph cost, and turn it face up. This isn’t an activated ability, and doesn’t use the stack, so your opponent can’t respond to it or counter it.

Can you reduce morph cost?

Can training grounds reduce the cost to morph a creature face-up? No. Morph isn’t an activated ability. Turning a creature face up for its morph cost is a special action.

Are morphs tokens?

No. Both the morph and manifest abilities that allow you to have a face-down permanent apply only to cards (morph works on creature cards in your hand, and manifest on cards from your library).

Can morph abilities be countered?

Yes, you can Morph(derp) counter a creature that is being cast face down. Can you counter the morph ability when it is played with a “counter target spell or ability” type spell? No. Turning a creature face-up using the Morph ability is a special action, and doesn’t use the stack.

Can you counter a morph creature?

You cannot respond to morph, but you can respond to abilities that trigger whenever a creature is turned face-up.

Do you need Priority to morph?

Any time you have priority, you may turn the face-down creature face up by revealing what its morph cost is and paying that cost. This is a special action. It doesn’t use the stack and can’t be responded to. Only a face-down permanent can be turned face up this way; a face-down spell cannot.

Can you morph during combat?

Yes, that can be done. Remember, a given phase or step does not end until both players pass priority while the stack is empty. After you perform the special action to turn Raven Guild Master face-up, you’ll still have priority, which you can use to activate Crafty Pathmage’s ability.

What does morph cost in Magic The Gathering?

“Morph [cost]” means “You may cast this card as a 2/2 face-down creature with no text, no name, no subtypes, and no mana cost by paying {3} rather than paying its mana cost.” (See rule 707, “Face-Down Spells and Permanents.”) 702.36b Megamorph is a variant of the morph ability.

Can a morph be used on a face down creature?

The converted mana cost of a face-down creature is 0 since it has no mana cost. Morph is only an option if you’re casting the spell. If you’re putting it on the battlefield, you cannot put it onto the battlefield face-down.

Can a morph be combined with an alternate cost?

Morph is an alternate cost, so you cannot combine it with other alternate costs. For instance, you could not cast a face-down creature for free if you control an Omniscience.

What happens when you use Morph on a card?

You can use a morph ability to cast a card from any zone from which you could normally play it. When the spell resolves, it enters the battlefield with the same characteristics the spell had. The morph effect applies to the face-down object wherever it is, and it ends when the permanent is turned face up.
