After Suikoden V, the series jettisoned off into games outside of the main storyline. The director of Suikoden Tierkreis famously didn’t care much about the game’s cannon and just wanted to make an RPG with some of Suikoden’s gameplay.
Is Suikoden 1 worth playing?
Suikoden 1 is worth it on its own (and it’s short too). Even if you end up not agreeing with that, it is absolutely worth it for the backstory of the characters and the fantastic sidequest in Suikoden 2, which I think of as the best game of all time.
