Zynga just finalized plans to shut down OMGPOP, the game developer of Draw Something it acquired for $200 million in March 2012. That’s a bit sad, considering our sources say OMGPOP.com and its non-Draw Something games were earning a decent amount of money — enough to be run independently of Zynga and make a profit.
Why was OMGPOP shut down?
“Our goal at Zynga is to give players the opportunity to play the most fun and social games on the web. With this goal in mind, we have decided to close some OMGPOP games to make way for new and exciting gaming opportunities,” Zynga explained in a company statement.
